Today, less than one in three Indiana 340B pharmacies are located in medically underserved areas, and two-thirds of the state’s 340B hospitals are below the national charity care levels. When everyone plays fair, 340B is crucial for underserved Hoosiers to get affordable medicine. Instead, hospitals and contract pharmacies are using it to bolster profits. Each year, hospitals and for-profit pharmacies profit from tens of billions of dollars in discounts meant to help patients afford their medications. Congress must #fix340B to implement regulatory infrastructure and keep savings in vulnerable communities. Also, it will ensure vulnerable patients will have access to the medicine they need. Let’s close the loopholes and establish reasonable, common-sense solutions to return this program back to its original safety-net intent.
